On a sunny beach in war-torned Cambodia a european painter on vacation and the curiosity of the local children of Sihanoukville leads to a simple but genious project. Noting the interest and will to partecipate painting by the children selling fruit and crafts on the beach, the artist decides to let the children try with colours and paintbrushes.
Four years later more than 150 boys and girls between 5 and 15 years old have partecipated in the project, selling their own paintings for 4$, where 2$ goes to their families and 2$ to cover school costs for the children. This way, not only do they continue to earn money for the family and have the opportunity to go to school, but the projects gallery is also a place to teach the children rules like not to stay out after dark, not to steal and gamble, aswell as being a safe meeting place where they can come and play with other children.
The organization also provide clean drinking water and one healthy meal a day, medical first aid and prevention information sessions on sexual and health education. In a place where it 's an illusion to think that the children shouldn't work, this project helps bringing back dignity and hope for a better future for the small workers of Sihanoukville.
